Jimmy Hutchison RIP

JIMMY HUTCHISON

It is with great sadness, I must report the death, and passing of lifelong PDAA member, and salmon angler supreme of Jimmy Hutchison.

Jimmy was 78 years old, lived in Luncarty, educated at Redgorton primary, Perth Academy and St.Andrews University, to become a Geography teacher at Googlyburn  School.

During his life, Jimmy must have caught thousands of salmon, and kept a written record of each fish, his written records were impeccable. He began his fishing on the Shochie as a lad. He was a stalwart and firm supporter of PDAA and served on the committee several times during his life.

Jimmy’s favorite form of salmon fishing was with a red devon, of which he was an expert, but did also fish the fly, in fact he invented the Hutchie Shrimp Fly, which he also used to great effect mostly on a floating line.

Jimmy walked the Tay beats around Stanley/Luncarty regularly in his latter years of retirement, and was well known amongst the Tay Gillies, and well liked, due to his fishing knowledge of the river. It was always well worth asking Jimmy his opinion, when you were fishing a beat, if Jimmy happened to walk past you, he was always up for a chat, and could point you to where the fish were likely to be resting. Funeral will take place on Friday 3rd September 2021, at 2pm at Perth Crematorium

Ted Eadie President PDAA.
